In "The Wind on the Downs" Marian Allen expresses her thoughts and later realizations of her husband’s death. Allen’s most powerful literary device is her use of imagery to forever remember the life of her deceased husband. In the beginning of the poem Allen uses imagery to describe the appearance of her husband to the reader: “I like to think of you as brown tall,\ As strong and living as you used to be,\ In Khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all” Allen also uses it at the end to describe the potential reunion of the couple: “Over the railway line, across the grass,\ While up above the golden wings are spread,\...Here still I see your Khaki figure pass,\...That you should open first the wooden gate.” Allen’s poem is the epitome of the feelings of a woman who has recently lost their husband at war. In “Munition Wages”, Madeline Ida Bedford uses dialect to portray the perfect character that has just turned from a poor house maid to a billionaire. Bedford shows her audience that although the character in “Munition Wedges” has just become drowned in riches her attitude towards life and people has not changed due to her money. Bedford first show her audience this when she says: “I Spends the whole racket/ On good times and clothes./ Me saving? Elijah!\ Yer do think I’m mad.” Here the poet introduces to the reader Elijah a possible friend to the speaker. Another example of the speaker’s elusive tone is “If Fate tumbles on us\ And blows up our shed.\ Afraid! Are yer kidding?\ with money to spend!” The speaker shows her bravery which also represents her pride. Bedford’s use in tone really gives the reader an insight in the speakers past, and what will be her future, life. In ”Glory of Women”, Siegfried Sassoon’s use of Satire to demonstrate his distaste in women during WWI. The poem “Glory of Women” talks about how womens role in war is useless and how they should find better things to do with their time. The title itself sets an irony to the poem since Sassoon spends most of the poem down mouthing all of the things that women during this time do yet the title makes you think that he will be talking about women in a glorified manner. You can tell that Sassoon doesn’t find women of any use when he says: " While you are knitting socks to send your son / His face is trodden deeper in the mud" (ll. 13-14) Here hes describing how men in war are condemned to a horrible life in war while women sit at home a knit. He also says “You can't believe that British troops "retire"\ When hell's last horror breaks them, and they run,\ Trampling the terrible corpses--blind with blood.” The writer here talks about how women are ignorant to what happens to men that are at war and the psychological effect after a war. In “The Rear Guard”, Siegfried Sassoons use of imagery describes the state of a trench in which each soldier during WWI was kept in. Since the beginning you can tell that the setting of the poem is treacherous according to the imagery found in the poem: “He winked his prying tourch with patching glare\ From side to side, and sniffed the wholesome air.” As the poem progrese o dies the imagery of the trench that the speaker is walking through; “Tins, boxes, bottles, shapes too vague to know,\ A mirris smashed, the mattress from a bed;” This shows the chaotic state of the trenches where things ae dumped. Sassoon’s use of imagery highlight Sassoon’s perspective of the trench which is that it is like a hell, as stated in the last line of the poem: “Unloading hell behind him step by step.”

Pans Labyrinth Misc en Scene

In the clip from Pans labyrinth the director uses the dimly lighted room , murals and shoes to explain things to the audience without telling them but instead showing them. As the clip starts you can see a story unfolding with the intelligently used imagery in the see, you first have the murals that show the monster sitting on the table eating children you than have the shoes representing how many children the monster has eaten and you also have the monster entranced in a sleep like sate sitting on a chair in front of table as though he was ready to eat and on the plate in front of him you find his eyes. The lighting in the scene is mostly natural lighting and highlighting. The fire is a natural light that illuminates the entire room keeping it visible but dim. The lights on the ceiling illuminates and draws attention to the murals on the walls.By using the fire the director has made the scene look like any other room but as you can clearly see with the murals and the monster that is not the case. The make up in the scene mainly centers around the monster you can see how they have completely covered his face and have drawn a lot of attention to his hands that are covered in blood and his long nails it is also emphasized how thin the monster is by his legs and multiple parts of his skin hanging off of his bones. In this scene you also have the young girl who wears a simple outfit suited for her time period she wears a green dress possibly drawing attention to the nature in the film and its importance on the whole movie. All of the dialect comes straight from the actors themselves, meaning that it is diegetic, there not much dialect mostly panting like when the girl first realized what the monster eats and when he is awake and the monster screaming. For the behavior of figures you have alot of the camera angles showing both the girl and things around her like the food laid on the table as she approaches the monster and her reaction as she sees all the shoes of children that the monster has already made a feast out of.

Although Social Media is a great way to keep connected and communicate in ways that were never possible before it also has given people a false sense of connection, it has developed cyber bullying, and it is the reason why there has been so much decrease in productivity. One of the major reasons why social media is bad is it sense of false connection, there have been situations like these all the time with sites like match.com, zoomb.com, you can think that your talking to an eighteen year old senior in high school captain of the football team, soon to become a college football player. But in reality it may just be Tom from two streets down that has been convicted for three murder trials. You also may feel very connected to this person swearing you know everything about them yet in reality you know nothing. According to Cornell University's Steven Strogatz, “social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between the meaningful relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media.” There is also the newly emerged type of bullying that has infected schools like a virus, cyber bullying. Jung wrote on the subject saying: “The devastation of these online attacks can leave deep mental scars. In several well-publicized cases, victims have even been driven to suicide.” Being anonymous on the internet has given bullies the upper hand when it comes to not suffering the consequences. This intern has become “the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year” according to the CDC. Finally Social media has impacted our society negatively because of the overall decrease in productivity, students find themselves watching YouTube videos rather than doing their homework. According to medialit.org: “Media Literacy is a 21st century approach to education. It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. Media literacy builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy.” Because of this definition I believe that I am media literate for example these blogs that we are using they provide a framework to analyze and evaluate ourselves as well as the brave new world text. I also make videos for my other classes like Spanish, and physical education. In my opinion everyone is Media literate at some point or another we use it all the time for class work and it is an easy and common way to learn something even teachers are media literate when they post things on edline. Edline has become the most productive way of communication for a teacher and student it is used by everyone and is very important to keep an organized schooling system. I do not agree with Postman to an extent because yes society has become reliant on the technologies that "undo their capacities to think"(Huxley.2.7) But there will never be a time where "there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted top read one." (Huxly.3.2) This is because book are still being used today, in class rooms, in offices, and they're still being sold. Most big movie productions start off as books and by popular demand have become movies. For example Harry Potter, the Twilight saga, the Hunger games, Perks of Being a Wallflower all started as books but as time went on the success of each of these books demanded them to become movies where others watched and in turn read the book as well. Another point that I dis-agree with is that "the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance"(Huxley.3.7) Everyone is always questioning authority, whether or not they are telling us the truth or covering up their lies. The most controversial topic in spectators today is probably the validity of whether or not 911 happened because of terrorist or the government trying to scare the us into another war. People are always going to care because they yearn to feel as though they are always right and they also want to feel superior to authority and the rules that have been formed to keep the world at peace. Blog Post #2 Design

As Carrie Carson said “The typefaces you select for a project can impact what people think as much as the actual message you convey.” (Carson ESTABLISH A MOOD WITH TYPOGRAPHY)To demonstrate to the reader that this is a professional blog I have made the font time’s new roman, I have also made my bio italicized so that it is noticeable yet you can tell that it is not as important as the things that I post. To not bore my audience, and show color with my theme, I have made some font the color red this is important because it “stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation” (Cherry Color Phycology). I have also made my background color a shade of blue which “was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain.” (Cherry Color Phycology). My picture is a professional one where I believe people will take me seriously but know that I am still a friendly person to be around. In my Bio I have shown how hard I work and things that I do outside of school. I have also pointed out some of my achievements when acceptable. In addition, I wanted my reader to know that although this is a professional blog, the blog post are my opinion and by reading them you are getting an insight of my thought process and character. For this reason I have changed the Post title font to coming soon this font is informal and gives the reader a face to face feel while reading about what I'm writing about. The background color of my blog is blue which is believed to sooth peoples minds, when reading my blog I want the reader to feel relaxed and excited and I show this by my choice in color scheme.Finally I have presented a professional yet eye appealing blog that gives people and idea of what kind of message I want to convey with it.

Blog Post #1 Who am I?

I am a student at William Mason high school, the graduating class of 2013. Next year I plan on going to the University of Cincinnati, accepted to the Carl H Lindner College of business. I work in a pharmacy where learning something new is a daily experience and presenting yourself in a professional but friendly manner is important. I have received perfect attendance in the past and look forward to doing it again, I also knows how to cook and clean, I even babysat as a part time job my freshman and sophomore year of high school. Growing up I have been no stranger to hard work and take pride in what I do, I am also a Microsoft office specialist in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
